There’s something special about Chalk. When you hold it in your hand, it begs you use it. It does not require special skills, training, or supplies. All you need is a small patch of sidewalk, a blackboard, or a brick wall. Chalk invites us all to play, to create, to innovate, and to communicate.
The mission of the Charlottesville Chalkfest is to facilitate events that help us learn each others’ stories and lay the foundation for building community connections. We love our city, and we recognize that we face serious social issues that are in need of acknowledgement and resolution. ChalkFest aims to take one small step toward assisting in these efforts. Conversations are more productive when we approach each other with empathy. Empathy comes easier when we know and are familiar with each other.
Chalk is central to this mission of facilitating community connection. It invites everyone to participate, it helps us share our stories, and it provides a way to learn about others.
During Chalkfest, local neighbors and organizations will be invited to tell their stories through a variety of platforms, including chalk art, conversations, and presentations. We hope you'll join us as we work for strengthen our community.
